Archives keeping is a modern science, related to the art of writing history. History being the record of human past is authentic when supported by reliable primary sources, which are usally deposited in the archives. While the inscriptions, monuments, coins, autobiographies, foreign accounts etc. aid the writing of ancient and medieval history, the writing of modern history requires invaluable assistance of the archival materials. Modern History has assumed new dimensions with inclusion of new branches of history such Political History, Social History, Cultural History, Economic History, Diplomatic History and International History. The writing of these new branches of history largely dependent on archives. Hence the study of archives as an area of specialization has gained importance in recent periods. Thus this book serves the purpose of Archives Keeping to help to know and write about history.
