The Indian Contract Act, 1872 is an important branch of law dealing with the different aspects relating to contracts. In the present edition the subject relating to the Indian Contract Act, 1872 has been dealt with section wise with the relevant commentary. In fact much care had been taken by the publishers Gogia Law Agency to see that all the decisions of the Apex Court on the subject have been incorporated and apart from it the relevant decisions of the Privy Council, and also different High Courts have been given at the appropriate places in the commentary.

The contract law provides mechanism through which individuals can voluntarily assume vis-a-vis others legally binding obligations enforceable by the other person. The law permits, within limits, persons to establish by agreement their own legal relation. The law conceives contract as an arrangement freely negotiated between two or more parties of relatively equal bargaining power.

The law of contract is generally concerned with "ensuring that agreements are arrived at in a way that at least meets minimum standard, respecting both parties' understanding of and freedom to decide whether to enter into the transaction.
